Why RE? This subject allows for discussion and exploration of themes that affect everyone and promotes respect, understanding and tolerance of different beliefs and cultures.

Creation Stories How did the world begin?
Children encounter the beliefs of major world faiths.
They also discuss a Scientific perspective on the creation of the world.
Opportunity is given for discussion of the children’s own beliefs and ideas on creation.

Faith through the Arts
A look at paintings, images, music and how people express their faith through these media. Opportunities are given for children to design and create/ compose work based on their learning. Children look at examples from Christianity and other major world religions. |
What is a church?
Looking at the different branches of Christianity and how churches differ. What do you think of as a church? Is every church the same? Also, children consider the ideas of community and global community. |
Research/ consolidation unit This unit is intended to bring together the learning from Years 3 – 6 inclusive. It also allows children to extend their understanding of the major world religions. Children are given the opportunity to choose two or three from the following religions: Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Sikhism and Buddhism. They use research and prior learning to create information leaflets/ posters or informative PowerPoints about their chosen religion. |
