MGJS Governors - 2026/2027 Term
Welcome to our Governors’ section
Our Governing Body plays an important role in the life of Meath Green Junior School. We provide strategic leadership, support and challenge, working closely with the Headteacher to help the school achieve the best possible outcomes for our pupils.
Our role is to act as a “critical friend” supporting and challenging the Headteacher and staff, while providing strategic oversight of the school. Governors are not responsible for the day-to-day management of the school, which is the responsibility of the Headteacher.
Our responsibilities include:
-
Setting the school’s strategic direction, policies and objectives
-
Approving and monitoring the school budget
-
Supporting and challenging the Headteacher and senior staff
-
Monitoring school performance and pupil achievement
-
Contributing to staff appointments and workforce decisions
Our Governing Body
The Governing Body consists of 11 Governors: The Headteacher, 1 Staff Governor, 1 Local Authority Governor, 2 Parent Governors and 6 Co-opted Governors who attend six Full Governing Body meetings each academic year; one per half-term. We also have an associate governor who supports the school.
The Full Governing Body meets six times each academic year, approximately once every half-term, to provide strategic oversight, support and challenge.
Governor Roles

-
Co-opted Governors – appointed for their skills, experience and expertise
