Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section

MGJS Governors - 2026/2027 Term

Our Governing Body plays an important role in the life of Meath Green Junior School. We provide strategic leadership, support and challenge, working closely with the Headteacher to help the school achieve the best possible outcomes for our pupils.

Our role is to act as a “critical friend” supporting and challenging the Headteacher and staff, while providing strategic oversight of the school. Governors are not responsible for the day-to-day management of the school, which is the responsibility of the Headteacher.

Our responsibilities include:

  • Setting the school’s strategic direction, policies and objectives

  • Approving and monitoring the school budget

  • Supporting and challenging the Headteacher and senior staff

  • Monitoring school performance and pupil achievement

  • Contributing to staff appointments and workforce decisions

Our Governing Body

The Governing Body consists of 12 Governors: The Headteacher, 1 Staff Governor, 1 Local Authority Governor, 2 Parent Governors and 7 Co-opted Governors who attend six Full Governing Body meetings each academic year; one per half-term. We also have an associate member who supports the school.

The Full Governing Body meets six times each academic year, approximately once every half-term, to provide strategic oversight, support and challenge.

Governor Roles

  • Local Authority Governors – nominated by the local authority

  • Co-opted Governors – appointed for their skills, experience and expertise

  • Parent Governors – elected by parents and carers

  • Staff Governors – elected by school staff, including the Headteacher

  • Associate Governors – appointed to provide specific expertise or experience

You can find below details of our Governors, including their roles, responsibilities and terms of appointment.

We are always happy to hear from parents, carers and members of our school community. If you have a question or suggestion, please contact us through the School Office or speak to us when you see us around school.

Co-opted Governor

Meath Green School has always been close to my heart, as I attended the school myself many years ago. It is a privilege to now give something back to a school that played such an important part in my own life.

I am in my 2nd term of office and am currently serving as Joint Chair of Governors. During my time on the governing board, I have enjoyed working alongside dedicated staff and fellow governors to support the school and help ensure that every child has the opportunity to flourish.

As a grandparent to two grandchildren, I understand how important it is for children to feel safe, valued and inspired to learn. I am passionate about supporting the school in providing the very best environment for pupils to grow in confidence, develop new skills and achieve their full potential.

Being part of the Meath Green community means a great deal to me, and I am proud to play a role in helping the school continue to thrive for current and future generations of pupils.

Seeing my son thrive there has given me first-hand appreciation of the positive impact the school has on children and families. I’m passionate about giving back and supporting the school and wider community and have been pleased to be a governor since 2021. I am in my 2nd term of office as Vice Chair.

Outside of this, I love travelling around the world to visit movie filming locations and have visited over 875 so far!
