Governors play an important role in the life of a school as they are accountable for, and have a responsibility for the work of the school. Therefore our Chair of Governors, Paul Hoskins, will tell you a little bit more about what the governors of Meath Green Junior School do.
Our role is to provide strategic management and challenge, to act as a "critical friend", supporting the work of the Co-Heads, and other staff. We can thereby help raise the standards of pupil achievement. We are not responsible for day-to-day management of the school, that lies with the Co-Heads.
Our wide range of responsibilities include:
Schools generally have a delegated budget to cover salaries, running costs, maintenance and equipment; we are responsible for managing this budget. We work with the Co-Heads to agree how many and what type of staff to employ, decide which equipment to upgrade or replace and what the priorities are for implementing new strategies and initiatives.
Governors also have a key role in monitoring the school's progress, in setting annual targets for the school's performance, including the head teacher and ensuring that targets for other staff are set. We are accountable to parents and the wider community for the performance of the school.
Our governing body is made up of:
Any one of the governors is more than willing to talk to you and listen to any suggestions you may have. We can be contacted through the School Office or if seen in and around the school please don't be afraid to approach us.
