Half Term Sports Report

WOW! What an exciting half term of sport we have had!
Starting off with the Surrey Primary Schools Cross Country Championships at Priory Park, Reigate where 15 children faced a gruelling 2km course with a lot of mud! There were over 100 children in each race and all Meath Green pupils finished in very credible positions, the best being 6th for one of our girls which qualifies her for Surrey team training.

The next event was a swimming gala against RAA where there were some outstanding performances in all year groups resulting in a team win for Meath Green!
The week after saw us take part in another swimming gala this time it was the Surrey Schools Swimming Association Primary Team Championships at the Spectrum Centre in Guildford. This was a tough and very high level competition giving our swimmers a fantastic experience, they all showed real team spirit and camaraderie throughout.
Then it was time for some hockey, the under 11 girls’ mini hockey team travelled to Cranleigh School for the Surrey Plate Championship. They were competing against 12 other schools, 11 of which were private so a really elite group. The girls finished 2nd in their pool qualifying for the semi-final which they won 5-0, meaning they had made the final. It was an extremely close match with outstanding team play and in the end they only lost by 2 goals, so finished 2nd overall. 2nd place in such a prestigious event was fantastic and they were awarded with medals on the day to honour their hard work and an excellent result.
Next was the South East Surrey Primary Schools Sports hall Athletics Competition. 24 children competed in many different indoor field and track events with some truly exceptional and gutsy performances. Once all the points for all the events had been added up Meath Green were crowned champions by a clear 8 points. This amazing result qualifies us for the County Final in March where we will represent the South East of Surrey, very exciting!
One more competition is due to take place next week to finish off the sporting events for this half term. It’s the boys’ under 11 mini hockey teams turn; they will be competing in the Surrey Plate Championship at Cranleigh School.
