Football match remembers WW1 truce... - 19 December 2014

A special football match against Reigate priory was organised  in conjunction with the British Council and the FA as part of the nation’s commemoration of the 100 years since WWI started.

The idea was to remember the troops who on the first Christmas of the war as part of the truce, laid down their weapons and wondered into no man’s land and made friends with the enemy. Swapping presents and sharing chocolate and cigarettes, they sang carols for each other and even organising a game of football - where our commemoration comes in.

The teams held a minutes silence and then played a match which was a fitting tribute to those men. In a close game, MGJ won 2 – 1.
