Pancake Race Report
Today was the day that all four houses competed to win the golden pan… an old age Meath Green tradition that goes back deep into the last century to mark Shrove Tuesday (pancake day) and the start of the religious festival of Lent. Miss Niece, Miss Purcell, Miss King and Miss Miles all lined up with their houses, ready to race against their opposing teams. Mr. Amerio gave a short speech then blew the starting whistle. Suddenly, a burst of cheer came from the crowd as the four year-threes approached the middle of the course to flip their “environmentally friendly” pancakes. This continued across the year groups until the point when the teachers ran for their team. We never knew that they all had such talent! Yellows started ahead, whilst Greens trailed behind and Reds and Blues were neck and neck. Just as all the teams were drawing to the end, Greens shot ahead and quickly passed Yellows across the finish line.
Over all, it was the best pancake race that we’ve had over the years, with Blues in 4th, Reds in 3rd, Yellows in 2nd and Greens in 1st!
