Meet the Governors

Welcome to the governors section of this website.

Governors play an important role in the life of a
school as they are accountable for, and have a responsibility for, the work of the school. Therefore I thought I would tell you a little bit more about what the governors of Meath Green Junior School do.

Our role is to provide strategic management and challenge, to act as a "critical friend", supporting the work of Mrs Hilton-Childs, the head teacher, and other staff. We can thereby help raise the standards of pupil achievement. We are not responsible for day-to-day management of the school, that lies with Mrs Hilton-Childs.

         Steve Sutton

Our wide range of responsibilities include:
    ·       setting the strategic direction, policies and objectives of the school
·       approving the annual school budget
·       reviewing progress against the budget and objectives
·       challenging and supporting senior staff
·       playing a part in appointing staff
Schools generally have a delegated budget to cover salaries, running costs, maintenance and equipment;
we are responsible for managing this budget. We work with Mrs Hilton-Childs to agree how many and what type of staff to employ, decide which equipment to upgrade or replace and what the priorities are for implementing new strategies and initiatives.
Governors also have a key role in monitoring the school's progress, in setting annual targets for the
school's performance, including the head teacher and ensuring that targets for other staff are set. We are accountable to parents and the wider community for the performance of the school.

Our governing body is made up of:
·        3 Local Education Authority (LEA) Governors who are appointed by the LEA
·        4 Community Governors who are individuals from the local community who are invited by the Governing    Body itself to join them
·            6 Parent Governors who are nominated by other parents of children at the school
·            4 Staff Governors who represent school staff, both teachers and non-teachers alike, one of whom is    the head teacher
·            Plus a clerk to the governors

Any one of the governors is more than willing to talk to you and listen to any suggestions you may have. We can be contacted through the School Office or if seen in and around the school please don't be afraid to approach us.
